Sports floors in gyms, sports halls and other sports facilities are exposed to daily stress. They have to withstand many jumps, steps and ball strikes, sometimes a weight falls down. Which floor covering can take it?

Imagine you are the owner of a small gym. Customers are coming in droves because exercise is very fashionable lately. Yet you don't have the funds to pay for expensive technology and a company to install it. Or you may want to set up a modest weight room in your home. Is a load carpet, a rubber floor, a common flooring option enough for you or do you want something special? You can also consider the PVC tiles Terramondi.

Why does Terramondi make sense as a sports floor and how does it differ from the other options?

Terramondi PVC tiles are used in all kinds of rooms from garages to children's playrooms to sports facilities, weight rooms, gyms or fitness centers. They are designed for high load, as the composite system really holds. Dumbbells, jumps and active children are not a problem. Terramondi sports floors absorb shocks and reduce noise. You can opt for the Light variant, this is designed for simulators, weight towers and all normal operation.

It is equally successful in withstanding sweat and spilled drinks. It is designed for chemical spills after all. The connections are so tight that really only very small amounts of liquid can get between them, and they evaporate again very quickly thanks to the AirFlow system. Any dirt can also be easily wiped off and the surface disinfected from time to time - this does not cause burns, which is not the case, for example, with the wooden board floors.

Many are under the misconception that PVC flooring is slippery, and a slippery surface in a sports hall is certainly not desirable. However, Terramondi sports flooring has a specially designed anti-slip design. Therefore, neither in socks nor in shoes there is no risk of slipping. You can also walk barefoot, the surface is very comfortable.

So that you do not suspect that we are exaggerating, take a look at the comparison of some parameters in various types of sports floors. You can see that Terramondi is the best in terms of hardness of the surface, so this floor can handle both high loads and dropped dumbbells. According to the data in the table below, it can be seen that on this floor you can put all the equipment, the floor will not break, the deformation is minimal.
Fire ReactionDeformation after loadSlip resistance
PVC floorflame retardant< 0,1 mmbis 0,75
Wooden board floorhighly flammable (Ffl)2,5 mm0,5 to 0,75
Rubber flooreasily flammable0,6 mm0,81

* The above data are approximate values that may vary depending on the type of product.

And how does it look financially?

What are the weaknesses of Terramondi compared to the other options? Besides the slightly higher price, the disadvantage of PVC tiles is the limited color palette. The tiles are produced in more than 10 shades and can be combined in one room, but the production of lines and signs in a sports hall is not possible. However, you can easily separate individual areas - for example, yellow tiles under the equipment, gray in the corridors.

Terramondi PVC tiles are not among the cheapest, but they are very useful as a long-term investment. They really last for many years, and if a tile breaks, it can be easily replaced individually. This does not require floor specialists, you can do it yourself. The floor is not glued, so it is possible to renovate, for example, only aisles that are most used. If necessary, in the case of rented rooms, the floor can be dismantled and transported away.

A lot of money can also be saved on laying, you do not have to be a craftsman to do it yourself. No special carpet pad is required, so you save about half the time. Thanks to the simple click system, you also do not need glue. All you need for laying is a rubber mallet.

PVC tiles can be installed in any gym, fitness room, sports hall or in your weight room at home. The only exception is outdoor areas where you want to play sports. This type of flooring is not suitable for that.
