Garages, boiler rooms and smaller halls are usually equipped with concrete floors. These have been used for a long time, but as soon as they get older, they require renovation. Over time, they can crumble and crack. In this case, the option is then to remove the floor and replace it or merely make it solid in some way. What is best then - PVC tiles, a concrete coating or classic tiles?
The application of a coating is not as simple as it may seem
The cheapest and seemingly easiest option is a concrete coating. However, its implementation is quite complicated. The floor must first be cleaned and leveled, it is even recommended to grind the floor with a special grinder. The coating must be applied in several layers, the top layer should be the strongest because of the loads.
Advantages:
- low cost solution,
- creates a uniform appearance of the floor.
Disadvantages:
- with a smooth coating the floor becomes slippery,
- Damage caused by chemicals, warm tires and road salt in winter.
For a new concrete floor, the removal of the old coating is the worst
Another option is to put on concrete again. Putting a new layer on top of the old and brittle is not recommended, because it may not support the new layer. Especially if it must withstand high loads (for example, in a garage), this approach is unsuitable. The construction of the new floor is simple, but the removal of the old floor means extra work.
Advantages:
- very fast laying,
- no damage from long standing and heavy objects and cabinets.
Disadvantages:
- Waiting time until the soil is ripe,
- without insulation, the floor is cold,
- if you can not remove the old floor yourself, the cost will increase significantly.
